2022 AU-RECS-RM COORDINATION MEETING
PRESS/MEDIA ACCREDITATION
1. ONLINE ACCREDITATION FOR MEDIA PERSONNEL BASED
OUTSIDE ZAMBIA
Accreditation is required for all media who wish to cover the 4
th
Mid-Year
Coordination Meeting of the AU, RECS and RM. Media accreditation is
strictly reserved for media professionals (print, photo, radio, television,
film/documentary, news agencies and online media) who represent a bona
fide media organization, and have a valid accreditation in their home
countries.
All journalists should apply through Online Registration System on the AU
website:https://accreditation.au.int/en/media/2022/4th-mid-year-coordination-meeting
Once journalists receive confirmation e-mail of their successful application
from the Information and Communication Directorate (ICD), and/or from the
relevant host country authorities they should print it, along with their
application documents and passport, to present upon their arrival to
facilitate the visa process.
Journalists should also fill in and send the visa on arrival form available on
the AU website: https://au.int/en/summit/coordination/4
The documents will be duly processed by the AUC and the government of
Zambia. All qualified journalists to participate at the AU-RECs Mid-Year
Coordination Meeting will be issued visa on arrival.
All journalists will be issued with journalist visas. No journalist will be
allowed to attend the meeting on a business or tourist visa.
Two methods of media registration for accreditation are available for
journalists applying from outside Zambia.

After completing the accreditation form, the form and scanned copies of all
the required documents should be sent via e-mail to the Information and
Communication Directorate (ICD) through the e-mail: Media@africa-

Required documents to accompany application form
Passport size photograph not more than six months old;
A letter of assignment on official letterhead of your media organization
signed by the Editor-in-chief indicating name of representative and duration
of stay
Copy of a valid professional press card or equivalent identification
It is also advisable to carry hard copies of all the required documents in
case of any necessary checks. Applications should reach the
Directorate before 5

2. ACCREDITATION FOR MEDIA PERSONNEL BASED IN ZAMBIA
All media personnel operating from within Zambia must apply for
accreditation through the Zambia News and Information Services (ZANIS)
Broadcasting Authority by providing the necessary details. The application
must be provided before the deadline set by the authority. Please contact

3. WHAT TO DO IN ZAMBIA
Journalists will need to get two badges:
3.1. The Government press badge will be issued by the host authorities. This
involves being photographed before the card is processed. The venue for
badge collection will be communicated in due course. This badge will allow
access into the conference compound.
3.2. AU Conference badge: After getting the government issued press badge,
journalists will be issued a conference badge by the African Union. This
badge will give them access into the conference and media rooms during
the meeting.
3.3. Journalists are advised to make sure they arrive in Zambia in good time so
as to have the documentation done before the meetings start.
3.4. Journalists are also advised to arrive at Summit venues early to ensure that
they clear all entry procedures before the meetings start.
4. YELLOW FEVER CARDS AND COVID 19 PCR TEST
4.1. Yellow fever cards will be required at the ports of entry for everyone
travelling from yellow fever designated countries.
4.2. COVID-19 precaution:
Ø A Rapid COVID-19 testing at airport/ AUC, at no cost, one day before
the meeting or the day of the meeting is a requirement to access the
meeting venue. Only delegates / participants with a negative Rapid
Antigen test will be allowed in the plenary and press center.
Journalists must show the Rapid Covid-19 test result when
requested. Media conference badge will not be issued in the
absence of rapid screening result for COVID-19.
5. CUSTOMS CLEARANCE FOR MEDIA EQUIPMENT
Accredited media personnel bringing technical equipment with them to
Zambia will be subjected to full Customs Control. Journalists are requested
to send their list of equipment together with their application for
accreditation. Media equipment form is also available on the summit

6. MEDIA FACILITIES
A media center with facilities for print, online and electronic media will be
available at the Summit venue. Access to media facilities will be available
only to accredited media representatives.
7. INTERVIEWS WITH AUC LEADERSHIP
The Information and Communication Directorate will help media to arrange
interviews with the leadership of the AU.

8. PRESS CONFERENCES
Briefings by the AUC leadership and leaders of the various African Union
organs and programmes will take place at the meeting venue. AUC will
organize press conferences of the AUC and other AU Organs. The schedule
of the press conference will be posted in advance and journalists will be
notified by e-mail on the updated details. A text message will also be sent
to their mobile phone, if a mobile number has been provided.
9. MEDIA COVERAGE OF THE MEETINGS
Opening and closing sessions of the meetings are usually open to
journalists, depending on availability of space within the meeting rooms.
Media practitioners will also be informed on other open sessions, and how
to access the plenary halls.
A briefing session will be held for all accredited media during the Summit.
A notice will be circulated regarding the time and date of the briefing.
10. LIVE STREAMING
Opening sessions and press conferences of the meeting will be streaming
live.
These feeds will be made available through the media centre and on the
AU social media platforms. Media will also be notified of all live streamed
meetings via the AU website and e-mail.
11. TELEPHONE
Telephone SIM cards will be available at the summit venue on a commercial
basis.
12. TELEVISION AND RADIO
Media will be notified if live links to their national broadcasters will be

13. ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation will be on self-arrangement basis. Journalists are advised
to make their booking early to avoid last minute inconveniences. A list of
Lusaka hotels will soon be available on the African Union website.
