How do I know if my Genie HD DVR is connected to the Internet?

Press the right arrow on your remote control:

your HD DVR to the Internet.

If you do not see the above message, your HD DVR is connected.
What does “Preparing” mean?
n
Preparing is the process of putting a mobile version of the recorded program onto your mobile device so you can watch it
anywhere, without an Internet connection. This will take the same amount of time to complete as the program’s run time.
n
For example: A one-hour program will take at least 1 hour to prepare, plus additional time based on your network speed
to download to your computer or mobile device.
What does “Downloading” mean?
n
Downloading is the process of moving the prepared program from your Genie HD DVR to your computer or mobile device
for viewing.
n
You can download the same content to all 5 devices without having to re-record or re-prepare.
n
Your device must be on your home Wi-Fi network to download prepared content.
How do I view downloaded programs on my mobile device?
n
Open the DIRECTV App on mobile device.
n
You’ll see your DVR playlist, select a program from the list, then select “Download”.
n
The selected program will then be prepared on your HD DVR to view on your mobile device.
n
A status bar will indicate download progress.
n
The status bar will change to a play button when the program is ready to view on your device.
What does Auto-Download Series mean?
n
Setting Auto-Download Series to ON will instruct your HD DVR to automatically prepare a program for your mobile device
every time it records a new episode. You will then have to download it to your device from within your home Wi-Fi network.
How to set your programs to prepare for download while you’re out and about?
n
Now you can select programs to prepare for download while you’re away from home. With this added convenience your
shows will be prepared while you’re on the go, so they’ll be ready for download onto your devices when you arrive home.
The time it takes to download content to your device varies, based upon Internet connection speed.
n
To Auto-Download series, tap on the folder for the show you want, then tap on the “Download Series” box.
How long do recordings stay on my mobile device?
n
Most downloaded programs from your HD DVR on your mobile device will expire after 30 days from the last time you
opened the DIRECTV App. Some content may only remain for up to 60 days. However, you can add the downloaded
program to your device again at any time if it still exists on your Genie HD DVR.

What limitations do I have in the DIRECTV App if my DIRECTV service has not been installed yet?

Customers will not be able to access in-home streaming-only content or purchase PPV.

Customers will also not be able to perform the following actions in the DIRECTV App until activation: record content, select
receivers, or use the mobile device as a remote for the receiver.
Why do I need to register for a directv.com account to stream content?

Out-of-home streaming service is available only to registered DIRECTV customers, both pending and active.

If a customer received an AT&T Access ID, they will not need to register for a directv.com account.
How do I register for a directv.com account?

DIRECTV customers can register their account at directv.com or via the app by clicking on “Don’t have an account? Create
one.” on the login screen.

AT&T customers will automatically receive a system-generated account and password after the order is placed and do not
need to register their account at directv.com.
How many days do I have access to streaming as a pending customer?

Customers will be allowed to stream for 14 days after the order is placed.

What kind of programming will I receive?

Customers will receive out-of-home channels and VOD content based on the packages / add-ons purchased at the

Why do I see a limited number of channels for streaming?

DIRECTV can offer only certain channels which can be streamed when a receiver is not on the same network as the
streaming device.

DIRECTV is always working with the programmers to increase the number of channels which are available for “out-of-
home streaming”.
Can I access content through 3rd party applications?

Customers will be able to use their DIRECTV account to access and stream content through DIRECTV-supported 3rd
party apps.
If I change my programming prior to activation, will I be able to take advantage of new channels?

Package changes will be reflected immediately and any additional out-of-home channels will be available through the
DIRECTV App.

Note that package downgrades may also result in the loss of access to certain out-of-home channels.
If I received promotional package(s) on my account when I placed my order, will these promotion periods begin if I stream
these channels prior to activation?

No. The promotional package period starts once service is installed and activated. Customers can, however, stream
content from their promotional package via the DIRECT App prior to activation.
Will I be charged for streaming content while waiting for my activation?

No, this is a complimentary service that DIRECTV is providing to the customer prior to activation. You may incur data
charges from your mobile provider if you stream via the cellular network.
Can I purchase PPV prior to activation?

I got a message that I won’t be charged for data when streaming. What does this mean?
n
Great news! If you’re a DIRECTV and AT&T Mobility customer, you can stream most movies and shows on the DIRECTV App
over the AT&T cellular network without it counting against your usage allowance.* It’s one of the many benefits of being an
AT&T and DIRECTV customer.
*Residential DIRECTV customers and select wireless customers only. Available only in the U.S. (excludes Puerto Rico and U.S. Virgin Islands). Streaming does not count against your data allotments. Exclusions: App download
may incur data usage/charges. Non-streaming app activity may incur data usage. Not available on select connected vehicles, prepaid, or to corporate responsibility users lines with a custom access point name. Eligible Wireless:
Requires postpaid data service on eligible device. Must not have data block on line. AT&T wireless usage subject to AT&T’s service terms, conditions, restrictions, and network management practices, including speed reduction.

Does this offer apply to all the content in the DIRECTV App?

Yes, viewing of content on all channels is currently covered. While we don’t expect it to occur, some advertisements may
not be included and could count against your usage allowance. Certain other data (metadata and background data- such as
program details and images) will also count against your allowance. Finally, the following activities within the App will also
count against your data allowance: browsing or searching for shows, viewing “settings, downloading the App or updating
the App (if over wireless). DIRECTV has implemented measures intended to address these limited circumstances.
Is this streaming offer available outside the United States?

No. This offer is available to eligible AT&T Mobility customers in the United States only. Not available in Puerto Rico and U.S.
Virgin Islands. International roaming is not included in this offer and data charges will apply.
Do I need to do anything to sign up for this streaming offer? Does it expire?

If you’re an eligible AT&T Mobility customer, you must sign up for the App, and from there, we’ll take care of it all. We
reserve the right to change this offer at any time. We will provide advance notice if we discontinue this offer.
Will this affect the quality of my video?

The Data Free TV feature won’t affect the quality of your video. However, DIRECTV uses video optimization technology in the
App to provide a better streaming experience, and content is commonly viewable in Standard Definition quality. However,
the App does this with all streams and this is not related to Data Free TV.
How much does this cost?
n
There is no additional cost to you. It is DIRECTVs way of saying “Thank You” for being a customer of DIRECTV and AT&T Mobility.
Is streaming sponsored on other network apps if I sign in with my DIRECTV account?
n
No, right now this offer is for content you view while signed into the DIRECTV App only.
I have an unlimited plan, but I know that AT&T might limit my download speed if I go past 22GB in one month. Does Data-Free
TV apply to me?
n
Yes, Data Free TV does not count towards the 22GB monthly threshold. But, once your threshold is met and you are in a
congested area, network management will apply to content delivered by the DIRECTV and U-verse apps, just like all other
content delivered by the AT&T wireless network.
Will Data Free TV still apply if I go over my data allotment on my Mobile Share Advantage plan?
n
Data Free TV will not count towards your Mobile Share Advantage data plan allotment. However, if you reach your data
allotment and you’ve exhausted your Rollover Data, and any other high speed allotments, all data usage, including that for
Data Free TV, will be slowed to 128 Kbps for the rest of your bill cycle. You will not be able to stream video during this time.
If you want more high speed data you can change your plan.
Will this be reflected on my AT&T Mobility statement?

Yes, you can see how much data you saved every month by looking for the Data Free TV line item on your AT&T wireless bill.
