Florida Teacher Certification Exam (FTCE)
General Knowledge Test Preparation Guide
All future teachers are required to take the General Knowledge Exam (GKE), Professional Education test (Ped) and
a Subject Area Exam (SAE) as part of the Florida Department of Education requirements for approved teacher
certification programs. Visit the Florida Department of Education site for additional FTCE information.

General Knowledge test (GK)
Is required for admission to state college or university education bachelor’s degree programs
Should be taken after ENC1102 English Composition Skills ll and MGF1106 Math for Liberal Arts
(sophomore year, fall semester, prior to earning associate degree)

Cost: currently $130 first attempt, $32.50 to retake any single sectionCheck the site for details.
Testing Location: Select a Pearson testing center site during registration

How to Prepare
Access
the Test Information Guide located at www.fl.nesinc.com/FL_TIGS.asp .
Review the study guide early and use it as a resource while taking composition and math courses.
Attend
a test preparation workshop offered by the CF Teacher Education Department. Visit
www.CF.edu/education for workshop details and to register to attend. *Workshops are FREE for CF

Utilize
our CF Learning Support Center! www.CF.edu/tutoring
o Currently enrolled CF students may utilize the PLATO program for interactive tutoring and
questions related to the GK.

o Include your name, student ID, and section(s) of the GK that you would like additional preparation
for in your request. You may also visit the Learning Support Center in the Learning Resources
Center, building 3 for information.
o Access the tutorials on or off campus by logging in online.
o CF Library has some new e-resources- log into MyCF, select Library on the left sidebar, click on the
red Search Library button, then click the Databases A-Z tab. PrepSTEP (EBSCO)
