as being most important, tell us what that

1 This sounds odd, but it would be nice if we could have some sort of space for murals. HOPE farmer's market is losing
the graffiti park on the west side - maybe they would be interested in hosting/administering something since they have
a market nearby. Anyway - it could be a cool way of keeping some roots to the area if there ends up being even a low
wall (to sit on) somewhere around the park.

2 Safety for everone 4/15/2017 4:19 PM
3 more trees with big canopies 4/14/2017 3:47 PM
4 heritage tress - more greenspace - less concrete. 4/14/2017 3:45 PM
5 The arch at Comal Park has a lot of value to the community and should be preserved. I do not think the playground
should be removed at all. It is hard for me to rank the items on the list because I do not agree with some and others I
do not see as a priority, but something that may be a good idea.
4/14/2017 1:44 PM
6 Better lighting, add drinking fountains 4/14/2017 11:31 AM
7 Keep the Comal Park Archway!! This is a historic feature built in 2001-2002 as a neighborhood project funded by
Austin Parks Foundation. It involved the participation of American Youthworks, East Cesar Chavez Neighborhood
Planning Team, neighborhood businesses, and community members (adults and youth). The project was awarded the
Nancy Bowman Neighborhood Park Grant award in 2002.
4/14/2017 10:58 AM
8 public toilets 4/14/2017 9:42 AM
9 Maximum greenery. Saltillo plaza nearby is great for community events - this should be green (please remove the
basketball court)
4/14/2017 9:12 AM
10 make it green! 4/14/2017 12:30 AM
11 Get rid of the basketball court. no one uses it. ugly, impervious cover that ruins the usefulness of the rest of the park. 4/14/2017 12:28 AM
12 New playground equipment for kids 4/10/2017 11:22 AM
13 Public art 4/4/2017 3:40 PM
14 A garden for the children to teach them how to grow food &flowers. 4/4/2017 12:23 PM
15 The survey was not recording all of my responses, so in summary my main priorities are a place for my young children
to play (playground, natural playscape, etc) and a large open multipurpose field area (for ultimate frisbee, soccer,
birthday parties, etc) with some picnic tables close by. The only other parks within walking distance of our house are at
schools so we cannot use them during the school day. It is very important to have this park for children to play (we
have used the playground consistently during seasons when drugs/prostitution/alcohol use was lower at comal park.).
Thank you!

16 N/A but NO hardscaping/sculpture like situation, NO dog park, NO food vendors, NO event space. The park should be
focused on serving families from Comal Courts and the Kid's camps that utilize the space.

18 Hello and thanks for putting this proposal forward. I’d like to suggest adding 3 Bocce courts 11' x 76' in front of and
parallel to the movie screen. Austin Bocce League will rally the neighbors, provide some free workshops and form the
teams. We'll coordinate with your movie showings to determine which nights will work best. One court should perhaps
be able to be reserved for $10 an hour. Teams are 6-12 people and each person will pay $25-35 to play once a week
for a "season" of 10-12 wks. Two (maybe three) seasons a year. Probably $5-7 of this revenue goes to PARD to help
maintain this park and others. We'd sponsor those that couldn't pay. Games could include sessions in the morning,
afternoon and evening play under the lights. It would be a beautiful scene, great social interaction and healthy activity.
We’d also like to get one local person to act as Coordinator to be paid perhaps $100 per team. This person works with
the Team Capos (Captains), runs the Registration and posts scores to the website for everyone to see. There will be a
tournament at the end of each season to determine the League champion team. We’d also have singles and doubles
tournaments. The league winners or a “Comal Allstars” team would compete against other Parks’ teams. It would be
great to have a shade arbor at each end of the courts and tables under them (like the Yountville, CA courts shown on
our website at austinbocceleague.org). We have a SURVEY there to get input and find out which days and times
would be best for the players. Let me know if I can make a presentation at your next meeting. Thanks, Robert
Battaile, Commissioner Austin Bocce League 707-287-4025

23 Please do not remove the playground.Kids need this for recreation.without visiting parents the park is in danger of
becoming solely a place to do/ sell/buy drugs.
3/29/2017 4:46 PM
24 Obviously do something about the drug dealers, pimps and prostitutes who hang out there scaring neighbors away. I'd
like to use the basketball court and it would be nice if there were an exercise circuit of some sort, maybe...

31 I'd love to see the playground expanded. 3/29/2017 1:37 PM
32 Safety and security. Comal Pocket Park is a gathering spot for people down on their luck. The shade and bathroom
facilities attract people who need shelter and running water. I chose food trucks as my second priority because I
believe that those businesses will draw more people, and do so every day of the week, which will make the park safer.
I suggest being very cautious about what kind of structures and amenities you install, as there is a real risk you could
inadvertently build infrastructure for a homeless camp.
3/29/2017 1:19 PM
33 Playground for big kids and little kids, ping pong, splash pad 3/29/2017 1:16 PM
34 There are WAAAAY too many homeless people hanging out at this park. It is scary to walk by and scary to hang out
there for this reason. The current structures are used by bums exclusively and the entire area smells of urine. Before
any taxpayer money goes to further improve this area we need to address the problem there with the homeless over
running the area.
3/29/2017 1:13 PM
35 Playground should absolutely be maintained. There are very few places for children to play in the neighborhood. It is a
park.
3/29/2017 1:09 PM
36 boules / petanque court 3/29/2017 12:58 PM
37 Safety, enforcing closed hours at night, and clean up EVERY DAY of the park. When I used to bring my toddler there,
I found needles, condoms...
3/29/2017 12:57 PM
38 Citizens use the basketball courts, along with the open field! Mondays and Wednesdays are basketball games(full
court) Tues-Thurs soccer! Play ground isnt used because of the crime in the park. This has been the problem for the
longest, however I guess it takes a different culture to move in for the problem to fixed! So sad that the city of Austin
operates like this. Comal park has been held hostage from the kids in the section 8 housing across the road of it, I
hope this is in consideration of them.
