OPPORTUNITIES FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
The Hamline Global Engagement Center assists in planning student and department events
throughout the year. In cooperation with the Global Students Society (GSS) and the Hamline
International Graduate Student Association (HIGSA), the GEC strives to make sure that students
can explore the St. Paul & Minneapolis areas and discover what makes Hamline and Minnesota
so great!

COST OF ATTENDANCE
Fees associated with an exchange
semester at Hamline University
rely on your school’s individual
agreement. Exchange students
will have tuition waived, and some
students may be required to pay
room & board charged directly to
Hamline.
COURSE REGISTRATION
The Global Engagement Center and
Academic Advising will reach out to each
student directly to register each student
for their courses. Current courses can
be viewed at hamline.studioabroad.

HOUSING
All students will be placed with Hamline undergraduate students in
Hamline residence halls. Exchange students do not have the option
of living off-campus or in single accomodations, unless an official
request is made with the Office of Disability Services for a legitimate
medical need.

STUDENT VISAS
Students applying for an J-1 visa or
students who are already in the US
studying on an J-1 visa must submit proof
of their ability to cover the required costs
of the exchange (as above, contingent
on each school’s exchange agreement),
demonstrating that they (or their families
or sponsors) have sufficient funds for
study. The GEC will contact each student
directly regarding required paperwork.

• Provide an official school transcript in English
• Personal statement
Proof of English proficiency for non-native English speakers
• Letter of recommendation (if necessary)
• Scanned copy of passport
• Proof of financial support (affidavits & financial documents)

GLOBAL MENTORS
Each new exchange student is paired with a global
mentor - an undergraduate or graduate international
student or student with significant international or study
abroad experience to ease the transition into student life
in the United States.
GLOBAL RETREAT
Each fall or spring, the Global Engagement Center
organizes an event focusing on intercultural
communication & world events at an off-campus retreat
center. All exchange students are encouraged to attend!
SEASONAL EXCURSIONS
The Global Engagement Center arranges for all
international students to visit historical and culturally
significant sites. Students visit cultural sites and have a
fun weekend away from St. Paul.
