T
he City of Northlake has secured funding
for resurfacing of South Roy and South
Roberta from North Avenue to Soffel
Avenue. The work will involve grinding off the
existing surface, resurfacing, drainage structure
replacement, curb and gutter removal and
replacement and sidewalk replacement where
necessary.
The work is scheduled to begin in April and
should be completed by mid summer. The
estimated cost of this work is approximately
$632,000 of which 80% of $545,600 is being paid
for with a grant secured by the City through
IDOT.
Hirsch Avenue from Roy to 43rd Avenue will
also be resurfaced this year, with the scope of work
the same as what is being done on Roy and
Roberta. This work will begin in August and
should be completed by October. The cost of this
work is estimated to be $546,000 of which 80% or
$436,800 is also being paid with a grant secured
by the City.
Also set for this year will be the replacement of
the traffic signals at Wolf and Winters, near West
Leyden High School. The existing signals are over
40 years old and parts are becoming difficult to
locate. The new signals will be similar to the ones
installed last year at Fullerton and Wolf. The
estimated cost for this project is $300,000 of
which 80% or $240,000 is being paid for with
grant funding.
The City will be making an application for
Community Development Block Grant Funding for
the installation of an elevator at Northlake City
Centre (the former Lutheran Church) at 112 N.
Wolf Road. This elevator will make all levels of
this building ADA compliant which will open up
the facility for community use.
You may have noticed underground work being
done also along North Avenue and Wolf Road.
This work is for installation of fiber optic cable to
enhance our ever growing internet infrastructure.
All landscaping renovation and repairs to
sidewalks and pavement will be done when this
work is finished.

Author Edgar Gamboa Navar, a picture history of
Northlake with details.
It is with great honor and responsibility that I
am serving my first term in the Illinois General
Assembly as State Representative for the 77th
District, which includes parts of Addison,
Bellwood, Bensenville, Franklin Park, Maywood,
Melrose Park, Northlake, Stone Park, and Wood
Dale, as well as OHare Airport.
As a newly elected, full-time State
Representative, my top priorities are to improve
access to quality education, prevent unfair property
tax increases for working families and work to get
Illinois back on the right track. I believe in leading
by example, which is why I have chosen to not
accept the state legislator pension and will support
legislation that will make it harder for lawmakers
to raise their own pay.
In Springfield, I serve in the following
committees; Appropriations Human Services,
Energy, Public Safety: Police and Fire, State
government Administration and Transportation,
Regulations and Roads.
As part of my efforts to stay connected to my
constituents, I have created seven citizen advisory
committees that will focus on different topics
covering, education, seniors, womens issues,
Latino issues, Public Safety, environmental
concerns and economic development and small
businesses. I encourage you to contact my office if
you would like to take part in any future meetings
and share your thoughts on the major challenges
From the Desk of State
Representative Kathleen Willis
facing our
communities.
To remain
accessible to my
constituents, I
have opened a

service office
located at 112 N. Wolf Road in Northlake. We
will be open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and
Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Wednesday
from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. and the first Saturday
from every month from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Our phone number is 708-562-6970 and we can
be reached via e-mail at [email protected].
Finally, I would like to invite you to a FREE
community electronics recycling and shred day on
Saturday, March 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at my
office in Northlake. At the event, your old TVs,
computers, phones and paper documents will be
securely disposed of by a recycling professional.
As always, feel free to contact me if you have
any questions about state government or if you
need help navigating through the often confusing
state bureaucracy. It is a privilege to serve as your
State Representative, and I look forward to
effectively working for you.

Musical Footloose
Debuts at West Leyden
It is pure rock n roll this March when Leyden
High School District 212 Theater Department
presents Footloose at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 8
and 15, and Saturday, March 9 and 16, in the
auditorium at West Leyden High School, 1000 N.
Wolf Rd, Northlake.
In this lively musical, big-city teenager Ren
moves to an ultra-conservative Midwestern town
where dance is forbidden. He breaks every taboo
including falling in love with Ariel, the preachers
daughter and rallies his classmates to defy the
town fathers and hold a rock n roll prom.
Based on the 1984 movie that launched actor
Kevin Bacons career, Footloose explodes on the
stage with classic 80s tunes such as Lets Hear it
for the Boys, and of course, Footloose.
The cast, crew and production staff is composed
of students from both campuses. You dont want
to miss this musical. These spirited students are
ready to rock n roll.
Admission is $3 for students and $5 for adults.

rebuilding, but it never happened. This picture
got about 20 responses from residents.
