Accessing Encrypted Emails via Zix Portal with Multi factor
Authentication
There are two different methods to access Zix portal with multi-factor authentication, receiving an SMS
text or using an authenticator application (Google Authenticator is used as the example in this guide)
with your smartphone. Both methods are outlined below, however, TTB highly recommends using an
authenticator application. An authenticator application is a more secure option as it is more difficult to
intercept. As a reminder, TTB will never ask you for your authenticator code and you should not give it
out to anyone.
Using Software Authenticator
1. Using a smartphone, navigate to the application store, and download the Google Authenticator
App.
2. To access Zix portal, you can click the URL on your original email or go to
TTB Secure Email
Password Authorization (zixmail.net). Enter your email address and password.
3. On the Register Multi-Factor Device screen, select Authenticator Application.
4. Enter your name, then click Next.
The next screen will display a QR code, you will need your smartphone with the authenticator
app installed to proceed with the next steps.
5. On youe smartphone, open Google Authenticator and select Add a code.
6. Select Scan a QR code.
7. Scan the QR code with the smartphone camera.
8. Next, enter the 6 digit security code displayed on the authenticator app displayed on your
smartphone.
9. Your smartphone screen displays a 6 digit TTB Secure Email security code that will update every
minute. The registration process is now complete.
10. On the TTB Secure Email Message Center screen enter your email address and password (Your
pasword from step 2, NOT the 6 digit number from the Google authenticator app)
11. On the Account Verification screen, enter the new 6 digit TTB Secure Email security code
displayed on the Google Authenticator App. Next selecting Verify, you can access your
encrypted emails.
Using SMS Text
1. To access Zix portal, you can click the URL on your original email or go to TTB Secure Email
Password Authorization (zixmail.net). Enter your email address and password.
2. On the Register Multi-Factor Device screen, select Text Message (SMS), then click Next.
3. Enter your name and select Coutry Code and enter the Phone Number that can receive text
messages, then click Next.
4. You will receive a text message with a TTB Secure Email security code which will be 6 digits.
5. On the Register Device screen, enter the 6 digit security code, and click Next.
6. On the TTB Secure Email Message Center screen enter your email address and password (Your
pasword from step 1, NOT the 6 digit security code)
7. On the Account Verification screen, enter the new 6 digit security code that you will receive via
text message. Next select Verify, now you can access your encrypted emails.
